how reiki changed me
When I first learned Reiki, I don't think I realised just how much it would change me.
I was excited to be re-entering the world of woo-woo and thought I was learning a healing practice. Something I could use to help myself, never thinking at the time that I’d be doing it for others. That wasn’t where I was coming from at the time.
I was going through a period of spiritual expansion. Picking up where I’d left off as a teenager/ young adult. Like many of us, life and expectations just got in the way and putting my self growth first just fell by the wayside.
But Reiki became so much more than that. It taught me to slow down and listen to myself.
To notice when something didn't feel right, rather than pushing those feelings aside. It helped me become more connected to my own intuition instead of constantly looking outside myself for the answers. The true answers always come from inside, not from external sources.
And perhaps most importantly, it helped me understand that I didn't have to keep being the person I thought I should be. The shoulds get us nowhere apart from a place where we blame and punish ourselves for not doing what others expect of us.
I could be me. I could trust myself and change my mind. I could follow what felt right for me.
Practising Reiki hasn't magically made life perfect. That's not what I'm saying. But it, along with other spiritual practices, has given me a different relationship with myself.
I'm much kinder to myself - I avoid the words have to, need to and should at all costs. Instead, I get to……
I'm more aware of my energy and my boundaries. I say no a lot more now if what is being asked takes me away from my energy. I'm more willing to stop and ask, "What do I actually need?"
That's probably one of the biggest reasons I love Reiki so much. Because for me, it's not just about lying down for an hour and relaxing.
It's about creating the space to reconnect with yourself.
To hear your own inner voice.
To notice what your body, mind and energy might be trying to tell you.
And sometimes, from that quieter place, you start to remember who you are underneath all the expectations, responsibilities and noise.
That's what Reiki has unexpectedly given me. And now, I hold space for others to experience it too which is such a gift.
If you come to me for Reiki, I hope you get to glimpse a little bit of what Reiki has done for me, and what it can do for you .
