What Happens In a Reiki Session?

This is something that I get asked a lot from people who have never been to one before.

Reiki is a form of complementary energy healing which can be used to help physical issues or help with emotional challenges you may be experiencing. If you don’t know much about it or haven’t had a holistic treatment before, you may be a bit nervous or hesitant about booking one.

So let me walk you through it!

First of all, don’t panic! I’m very friendly and I’ll do my best to put you at ease when you arrive.

You don’t need to bring anything with you, just come as you are.

When you arrive for your first session, there’s just a short form to fill in before we begin and then we’ll have a chat about what you’d like to get from the session. If there’s a specific reason why you’ve come, for example stress, pain, grief, we can talk about that and I can work to help that during the session.

Once we’ve done that, you move to lie on the bed. You’ll remain fully clothed and get comfy while I pop a towel under your knees to support your lower back, a blanket over you to keep you warm and a cloth over your eyes to block out the light so you can really relax.

There will be some music playing through the session and all you have to do is lie there and relax!

During the session, I’ll move around you and work on your whole body, focusing on areas that I feel need attention. The treatment involves light touch or hovering with my hands. Obviously there are certain parts of you that I won’t touch, so I’ll hold my hands over those areas instead. So even if you can’t feel me, I’m still there channelling the Reiki for you!

This part usually lasts 45-50 minutes during a 60 minute session and once I’m finished, I’ll let you know and you can gently come round. We’ll finish with another chat about how the session was for you or if anything came up for you.

What you might experience.

Reiki is never the same for any two people, in fact each session is different even for the same person.

Most people get a feeling of deep relaxation and a release of daily anxieties and stress.

Some feel heat or tingling, a need to cough, gurgling stomach or a need to move hands. This is just the energy moving around and is perfectly normal.

A lot of people see different colours, clouds, places, past life memories, loved ones that have passed over……all while receiving the Reiki. Your subconscious that is normally surpressed during the waking hours is able to peek through because the conscious mind is so relaxed.

For some, it can produce a powerful emotional release such as tears or laughter and at the time, you may not understand why.

And some people feel and see nothing at the time, just peace or relaxation, but they may have something come up in the following days, and that’s fine too!

SO, if you feel you’d like to try it, You can book in for a taster session, a full 30 minute session or a full 60 minute session on the appointments page. If you can’t get to me in person, I also offer a distance Reiki treatment - there is a whole page here on the website explaining that!

I really encourage you to take the plunge, put aside some time for you and get you started on your Reiki pathway to a more relaxed and healed you! It’ll be one of the best things you ever do, so come on. Step into the world of Reiki!
